Our Volunteers – The Heart of Olive Tree Cancer Support

Olive Tree Cancer Support simply could not operate without our incredible team of dedicated volunteers. Their generosity, commitment and compassion enable us to support people affected by cancer every single day.

As demand for our services continues to grow, so does our need for volunteers. Whether you can offer practical support, professional skills or simply your time and enthusiasm, you can make a real difference.

Volunteering for The Olive Tree

Volunteering with Olive Tree Cancer Support is a rewarding way to support people affected by cancer while becoming part of a caring and supportive community. By volunteering your time, skills and experience, you help us provide vital services in a warm, welcoming environment.

Volunteering also offers the opportunity to:

  • Use your existing skills and develop new ones

  • Gain valuable experience

  • Meet new people and build meaningful connections

  • Be part of a compassionate and dedicated team

Below are brief descriptions of some of our current volunteering opportunities. Our roles are also listed on the national volunteering website.

Trustee Volunteers

Our Trustees play a vital role in overseeing the management and administration of Olive Tree Cancer Support, ensuring the charity is well-run, sustainable and effective.

Trustees meet once a month to discuss key areas such as fundraising, events, service provision and volunteer recruitment. In addition, individual trustees may choose to support the charity further by contributing their skills in areas such as:

  • Finance and accounts

  • Administration

  • Public relations and communications

  • Event planning

  • Governance and compliance

This is a rewarding role for those who want to make a strategic impact and help shape the future of Olive Tree Cancer Support.

Front Desk / Administrative Volunteers

As the first point of contact for visitors, staff and volunteers, Front Desk and Admin volunteers play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and calm atmosphere.

This role is ideal for someone with:

  • A friendly, compassionate and approachable manner

  • Experience in administration, reception work or general office support

  • Good organisational and communication skills

You will help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the centre and provide reassurance to those who may be feeling anxious or vulnerable.

Complementary Therapy Volunteers

Complementary therapies are an important part of the holistic support we offer. We welcome applications from qualified practitioners who can volunteer some of their time to support our clients.

We are particularly interested in hearing from those qualified in:

  • Aromatherapy

  • Reflexology

  • Indian Head Massage

  • Acupuncture

  • Reiki

All complementary therapists must:

  • Be fully qualified in their therapy

  • Hold appropriate insurance

  • Be a member of a recognised professional association

Counselling & Coaching Volunteers

Olive Tree Cancer Support offers both counselling and coaching services to support people affected by cancer.

Counsellors must:

  • Be fully qualified

  • Be members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

  • Have completed a minimum of 50 post-qualification clinical hours

Clinical supervision is provided for all counselling team members. We also offer a limited number of student placement opportunities each year.

Coaches must:

  • Be qualified and certificated by a recognised organisation

  • Hold appropriate insurance

  • Be in external supervision (not currently provided in-house)

These roles are essential in helping individuals navigate the emotional and practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

Fundraising Volunteers

Our fundraising volunteers play a vital role in ensuring Olive Tree Cancer Support can continue to offer its services free of charge.

We are always happy to welcome new volunteers to our friendly and enthusiastic fundraising team.

Volunteering in fundraising is:

  • Enjoyable and rewarding

  • Flexible — you can give as much or as little time as you wish

  • A great way to use your skills and experience for a meaningful cause
