Gentle Yoga for cancer patients

Gentle yoga

We offer Yoga to clients as part of the centre's holistic approach to care. All Yoga tutors are fully qualified members of a Professional body.

Yoga for cancer patients

Yoga offers us the ability to do something for ourselves. There is no competition in Yoga and it is open to all. We work from where we are physically and emotionally, tuning in to our own body and travelling slowly and mindfully.

Yoga can help us to strengthen the immune system and encourage our inner healing. It is a holistic healing system that creates harmony and balance on all levels of our being.

Gentle physical postures practised with the breath help us to regain movement, strength and flexibility, improve posture, clear toxins, increase energy levels and enhance the functioning of our internal organs and glands as well improving our breathing, and our confidence.

Relaxation helps us to let go, to release muscular and mental tension, allowing us to tap in to our inner stillness bringing a feeling of peace and calmness which helps us to cope with the diagnosis of a life changing illness and also the stress and anxiety of cancer treatment.

With continued practice Yoga brings about subtle changes in our lives. We often begin to reflect more deeply, to view things differently, to reassess our attitudes to life and those around us. It helps us to develop a sense of well being and harmony.

Yoga is a wonderful thing to share and enjoy.

Do I need to take anything to class?

You will need to take a mat to work on. Ideally a yoga or exercise mat, but to start with you can use a rug or blanket.

What do I need to wear?

Wear something loose and comfortable which allows room for movement, for example: Tracksuit bottoms or leisure pants with a t-shirt and sweat shirt which can be removed as you warm up, or leggings and a t-shirt. normally you would work with bare feet but trainer socks may be worn if preferred.

How many sessions can I have?

As many as you like. The greatest benefit will be experienced with regular attendance, but just attend when you can.

We would respectfully request that members make a minimum donation of £3.00 per session - this can be done at the class.

Where will the class take place?

Currently the class takes place on Friday mornings from 10.00 - 11.15 a.m. and on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 7 p.m. at the Olive Tree.

Health forms

All new members of the class will need to complete a confidential form which will be used to inform the tutors only.

How do I book?

There is no need to book, just turn up. If it is your first session it is advisable to ring the centre during the week just to check that there has not been a cancellation. Generally the class is 'on-going', and if there is a break you will be advised at the previous class.
