Cranio Sacral therapy for cancer patients

Cranio-sacral therapy

We offer Cranio-Sacral Therapy to clients as part of the centre's holistic approach to care. All the practitioners are fully qualified members of a professional body.

What is Cranio-Sacral Therapy?

Cranio-Sacral Therapy is an exceptionally gentle, yet extremely powerful form of treatment.

It is a profound healing process which can release the deeply held patterns of disease - both physical and psychological - which accumulate throughout life, as a result of injury and illness and which may result in ill-health and dysfunction.

It is a therapy whose principle purpose is to establish a strong underlying vitality and the free flow of this vitality throughout the body.  This enables the healing forces within to overcome disease and distress and to release tensions and restrictions, so that symptoms, conditions and their underlying causes can be resolved.

How can Cranio-Sacral Therapy help?

Cranio-Sacral Therapy treats people rather than conditions.  It is primarily concerned with establishing a balanced underlying state which enables the body's own healing mechanisms to operate at optimum levels, therefore restoring health.

The natural world is guided by rhythms which are all around us.   Our bodies also have natural rhythms, not just that of breathing in and out, but a more subtle rhythmic motion.  Everything that happens to us in life, every trauma, illness, injury affects this rhythm, causing restrictions and disturbances.  An experienced practitioner can "tune in" to this rhythm and engage with these natural movements.  This interaction enables the patient's systems to respond by addressing and releasing any resistance or disturbance.  A more settled, calm balanced state is achieved, which allows the body to function more smoothly and fluently.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy can:

  • Promote feelings of deep relaxation
  • Bring calmness and peace of mind
  • Contribute to a sense of well-being
  • Improve energy levels

What can I expect in a treatment?

The treatment is carried out with the patient lying down, fully clothed and in a quiet, peaceful environment.  The treatment is totally non-invasive and involves the light touch of the practitioner's hands on any part of the body from the head to the feet.

How will it make me feel?

During your therapy you can expect to feel relaxed, comfortable and supported both physically and emotionally.  Some may experience feelings of lightness and ease.

How many sessions can I have?

Prior to using the complementary therapies and treatments at the Olive Tree, you will meet the Centre Manager to discuss the different therapies on offer and agree those which would best support your needs.

Members are entitled to 4 free sessions of any therapy they choose or a combination of therapies.
Following this we would request that, circumstances allowing, members make a minimum donation of £5.00 per session.

Where will the therapy take place?

All therapy sessions take place in our dedicated therapy rooms at the centre.

We have adjustable couches which can be lowered to assist those with mobility difficulties. They can also be adjusted to a semi sitting position for those who prefer not to lie flat. Please discuss this with your therapist.

How do I book a therapy session?

All sessions are booked through the manager or an appointed volunteer. You can book in person, by telephone on or by e-mail - office@olivetreecancersupport.org.uk
