Remembering The Olive Tree in your will

When it comes to your will, it's only right that your family and friends come first in your thoughts. But that doesn't mean you can't also leave a gift to a cause close to your heart.

Legacies and pledges are vital to our very survival, a fact that many of our supporters don’t realise. Currently 35% of people say they would consider including a gift to charity after providing for their family and friends in their will. Only 7% actually do so.

A gift in your will, no matter how small, can make a vital difference to someone living with cancer. We channel every penny we receive into our cancer support services, and you can be confident that your gift will have a real impact, both now and in the future.

Legacies and pledges also have financial benefits for your friends and family, as gifts to charity are exempt of tax and may also help to bring the total value of your estate below the taxable threshold.

What type of legacy can I leave?

  • A pecuniary legacy: a gift of a specific sum of money.
  • A specific legacy: a gift of a particular named item.
  • A residuary legacy: a fraction or all of the remaining part of your estate once your family and friends have been provided for.

If you are unsure about what kind of gift you would like to give, simply talk to your solicitor who will be able to advise you further.

Amending your will with a codicil

If you have already provided for your family and friends by making a Will, but would like to alter it to include a gift to charity, you can do so by drawing up a codicil. A codicil is an addition or an amendment to your Will.

Codicil form

If you have already made a will, but you want to leave a legacy to Olive Tree you can make an addition or change without re-writing your current will.

To leave a legacy to us, please download the codicil form and take it along to your solicitor.

Please note however that this form is not legally binding on its own and has to be part of your main will. We advise you to seek the advice of a solicitor.

Leave a pledge

Pledges are not legally binding so by filling out this form you are not committing yourself. You are simply allowing Olive Tree to confidently estimate future financial support for our causes.

Please note that this form is not legally binding on its own. We advise you to consult a solicitor if you would like to make this pledge a part of your main will.

Please download the form below and send it back to us.

When filling out the forms above, please ensure that pledges and legacies are left to The Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre. Our registered charity number is 1157386.

If you have any questions about leaving a legacy or pledge in your will to Olive Tree please contact us on 01293 534465.
